Aquaman star Jason Momoa teases the future of the DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran.
During a recent chat with ET Canada, Aquaman star Jason Momoa was asked about Henry Cavill’s Superman return. While sharing his thoughts on the matter, Momoa teased that his DC Universe dream project is finally becoming a reality thanks to James Gunn and Peter Safran, the heads of Warner Bros.’ new DC Studios division. Discovery.
“I think with Peter Safran and Mr. Gunn running DC now – very excited about it – there’s a lot of cool stuff going to happen, and one of my dreams will come true under their watch. So stay tuned,” Momoa told the folks at ET Canada.
Jason Momoa debuted as Aquaman in Zack Snyder Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicewhich opened in March 2016. The following year, Momoa was featured alongside the rest of the DC Universe heroes in Justice League, before reprising the role for his standalone film Aquaman, which is the highest-grossing DC Comics feature to date. His character will next be seen in Aquaman and the Last Kingdomwhich will arrive in the winter of 2023.
Last month, James Gunn and Peter Safran signed a four-year contract to lead DC Studios. The division is now in charge of DC’s film, television and animation efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing together the company’s comic-related assets under one roof.
James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to the head of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, and will collaborate with co-directors from Warner Bros. Film Group, Michael DeLuca and Pam Abdy.
