Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise has come a long way since its big screen debut in 2002 with Tobey Maguire as the titular hero, Peter Parker. After three installments, Andrew Garfield wore the red and blue suit in 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man with a sequel that broke everyone’s heart in 2014. It only took two years before Tom Holland made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War and finally got his own solo movie in 2017.
It was only a matter of time before the world witnessed an iconic event in MCU history when the three web slingers appeared in Spider-Man: No Coming Home, the conclusion of the Dutch trilogy. This momentous event led fans to a series of wonders about where the franchise is going next.

The future of Sony’s Spider-Verse
The huge success of the MCU’s Spider-Man movies has encouraged Sony to keep pushing forward with more stories about our friendly neighbor. Tobey Maguire has previously expressed interest in reprising his role in a Spiderman 4 movie, and Andrew Garfield looks cool with another shot at a third episode of The Amazing Spider-Man.
While these unconfirmed talks have sparked public interest, it’s safe to say that Marvel Studios is keen to develop a fourth Spider Man story that picks up after the events of No coming home. With all three Spider-Men on board, the studio will have to make a tough choice: who will rule the Spider-Verse?
At first glance, it will make sense to put Holland’s Spider-Man in the driver’s seat. It’s his story that the public follows anyway. But many fans are also pleading for Garfield, who is once again keen to keep his dream role. We also have news of Holland hinting at a hiatus from the MCU after jumping from building to building in three movies.

This is the best time and opportunity to put Garfield’s Spider-Man front and center. with the next Venom 3 movie, it gives the character a chance to reintroduce himself. Venom doesn’t run on the same timeline as the MCU. There are plenty of Spider-Verse stories out there without Spider-Man in sight.
All it would take is a great script and a brilliant director to make that happen, because Garfield is already an amazing actor with so much enthusiasm for the role. As for Maguire, his character will remain a subject of fan speculation until the writers find him a place where he fits into the story.
Spider-Man: No Coming Home is available to stream via Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+.
