In an interview with QG, The White Lotus Actress Sydney Sweeney has expressed her disappointment at the invasive and upsetting harassment caused by online factions of trolls and the extreme sexualization perpetrated by social media and fan communities. Even before Sydney Sweeney found her footing in the industry and settled into her skin, the Euphoria star had to go through years of peer scrutiny, alienation and embarrassment at a young age.
The residual emotions of years of hate online and offline then come running back as she is forced to step back into the ostracizing spotlight of abuse and the pervasive male gaze in her Hollywood acting career.

Sydney Sweeney, 25, from Spokane and originally from Washington State, first rose to popularity when she starred in the television series, Everything sucks! Working as an aspiring actress from the age of 12, Sweeney eventually landed the role of Cassie Howard in HBO’s teen drama. Euphoria in which she embodies an abused, sexualized, self-destructive teenager, perpetually suffering from lack of esteem and insecurity. After dutifully portraying the role at its essence, the actress, much like her on-screen persona, began to be subjected to the scrutinizing, invasive, and targeted attack that accompanies the exploitative nature of oversexualization.

When trolls took screenshots of her nude appearances on Euphoria and shared them online tagging his family, the harassment has become too transgressive to not comment on. In his November 11 interview with QGsays Sydney Sweeney,
“It got to the point where they were taunting my family. My cousins don’t need that. It’s completely disgusting and unfair. You have a character who goes through the scrutiny of being a sexualized person in school, and then an audience who does the same.
However, this isn’t the actress’ first rodeo to be bullied online. His controversial stance on US sociopolitical issues had drawn a wave of scrutiny earlier this year and sparked reactions among alarmed fans as talks began to circulate regarding Sweeney’s cancellation.

Although the explosive nature of the Euphoria-related online abuse began relatively recently, the Once upon a time in Hollywood The actress revealed that her early formative years at school weren’t much different.
“I had b**bs before the other girls and I felt ostracized for it, I was embarrassed and never wanted to change in the locker room. I think I took on this weird personality other people had about me because of my body. So I played all the sports and I studied really hard, and I did everything that people wouldn’t think I would do, to show them that my body does not define who I am.

Her experience with trolls dates back to May 2021 when she was forced to take to Instagram Live to call out people who were shaming her. Meanwhile, Sweeney was trending on social media after a tweet dubbed her ugly. As the actress struggles to express her growing disappointment with the traumatic culture of bullying on social media, she also finds the strength to applaud these trolls – “I think that’s ridiculous. I am an artist, I play characters. It makes me want to play characters that piss people off even more.
