Despite all the initial criticism from filmmaker and actor Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone received critical acclaim, it’s done pretty well in terms of viewership which has steadily grown since the TV series premiered in 2018. It has a stellar ensemble cast consisting of Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, etc., and will premiere its fifth season soon in November.
However, a point of criticism that has been awarded to Yellowstone is the idea that the show is appealing to the conservative crowd in America, which is only expected given the fact that the show is set in a much older time with cowboys involved. So how does Taylor Sheridan react when her show is called a “red state” show? He just laughs about it.

Taylor Sheridan defends Yellowstone against ‘anti-revival’ allegations
A period drama Yellowstone revolves around a family of ranchers led by Kevin Costner’s character who have sought to defend their land from outside influence.
If it’s easy to understand why Yellowstone is considered a “red state” show, it doesn’t seem too reasonable to blame Taylor Sheridan, the director of a movie like Wind River which focuses on the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, possibly enabling conservative ideals that appeal to the conservative crowd.

During an interview with The Atlantic, the 52-year-old creator of Yellowstone was quick to defend his show against critics claiming it appealed to the conservative spirit. He said-
“They call it ‘the conservative show’ or ‘the republican show’ or ‘the red state’ ‘Game of Thrones’.
“And I just sit around laughing. I’m like, ‘Really?’ The show talks about Native American displacement and how Native American women were treated, corporate greed, Western gentrification and land grabbing. Is it a red state show? »
The words come from afar, and the cast of Yellowstone repeatedly faced the weight of being associated with the TV show, subsequently excluding them from nominations (unofficially and indirectly) at award shows. Surprisingly, the series has yet to receive an Emmy nomination!
