Daniel Craig strives to reinvent his post-James Bond image, takes sexual fluidity further with Taika Waititi to play gay detective in Knives Out 2

James Bond might be considered one of Hollywood’s most masculine characters, but Daniel Craig seems to have gotten over it. After playing Agent 007 for fifteen years, he is ready to move on. For starters, Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role as Detective Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion: A sequel at loggerheads.

This particular run as a detective is quite different from his portrayal of James Bond. It is because the Knives out The franchise will focus on exploring Benoit Blanc’s sexuality in future installments of the film. Daniel Craig is ready to dive deeper into sexual fluidity and change the image James Bond gave him. The new Belvedere Vodka ad can attest to that.

The advertisement for Belvedere Vodka opens with a black and white scene and focuses on Daniel Craig, standing in the style of James Bond. The screen switches from black and white to color and Craig is seen in a much different mood than before. He blesses the building with his groovy dance moves before settling in for “ultimately” drink a sip of vodka. The shot is interrupted by Taika Waititi, who is playing the role of a director, shouting “To cut!” Then he tells Craig to be himself next time.

Now, is this a way for the actor to tell his audience what to expect from him? Well, since everyone knows about Waititi and his unusual ways, it’s entirely possible. Waititi himself said he didn’t want to go for the obvious angle for the ad, saying it would be “lazy.”

“It’s just nice to do something where it’s like, ‘Oh, is this the real Daniel? Maybe this is another version of Daniel than the one we saw? He was just great and wasn’t cynical about it, and he wasn’t reluctant, he just leaned in.

That says a lot about how Craig is ready to explore more areas when it comes to acting. He’s embraced the tough, masculine persona of James Bond for over a decade now. Seeing him dance to Rita Ora’s song is definitely something new for his fans. He could go from portraying traditional masculinity to a more sexually fluid, and dare we say, fun personality.

Craig had his last run as James Bond with the film, no time to die which was released in 2021. He had apparently thought about saying goodbye to Bond after Spectrum but was later convinced to make a fifth film.

He once blamed the all-or-nothing demands of the job as the reason for quitting, saying thinking about life after Bond made him realize just how demanding Bond’s role is.

When you’re in, you’re in, and that’s the thing. I don’t know what it is, maybe having another child, maybe just being older. But all those things, I was just like, you know, fuck. There are other things that are more important. »

Now with her character in Knives out confirmed to be gay, with promises to further explore the detective’s sexuality in the third film, Craig has already moved on to completely different things. The Belvedere Vodka ad appears to be just a preview of what’s in store for the actor.
