Cameron Michael Neely is a former player and current manager of the professional ice hockey league in Canada. He was born on June 6, 1965. From 1983 to 1996, Neely was a member of the National Hockey League (NHL) teams, the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins, where he played on the right wing. His dominance on the pitch earned him the nickname “Bam-Bam Cam”, and he was one of the best power forwards of his age. In 2005, Neely was honored by being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Player career
Neely was recognized as one of the most honorable people in Maple Ridge and was a member of the Ridge Meadows Hockey Association for the duration of his time while playing minor league hockey.
During his time with the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League, he was the team’s head coach when they won the Memorial Cup and became the first United States team to win the trophy. After being selected ninth overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1983 Entry Draft, Neely went on to play for the team for a total of three seasons.
Boston Bruins
Neely was traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Barry Pederson the same day he turned 21 in June 1986. The trade also included Vancouver’s first pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, who was the third pick in total and was used to choose Glen Wesley. Neely’s lackluster performance on defense, as rated by Canucks head coach Tom Watt, contributed to the player’s availability in the trade market.
