The Harry Potter The franchise was once the crown jewel of WB. But since Voldemort died in Deathly Hallows part 2, their Wizarding World films were unable to create the same impact. The first one fantastic beasts the movie did well, but the second one underperformed, and the third one just didn’t turn a profit. Thus, David Zaslav and co. were trying to get back to Harry Potter franchise and offer a few films based on the infamous play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And apparently even Ralph Fiennes wants to come back.
David Zaslav’s Harry Potter blueprint
Very recently, David Zaslav mentioned the possibility of working with JK Rowling on a 2-part adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He said:
“We will focus on franchises. We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years. We haven’t done Harry Potter for 15 years. The DC films and Harry Potter films provided a large portion of the profits for Warner Bros. … over the past 25 years. If we can do something with JK on Harry Potter in the future.
It sounds like a great plan, but it didn’t get a promising response from Rowling.

According to a recent report by Puck News, WB executive Toby Emmerich previously attempted to make a 2-movie adaptation of the Broadway play. The report stated:
“Emmerich brought up an idea that had been pitched before: a potential two-film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the original five-hour play that had become a smash hit in London and Broadway. .”
But apparently the idea didn’t go so well with JK Rowling as she wasn’t interested. The report continued:
“Alas, Rowling and Co. weren’t interested in the Cursed Child films, at least not at the time, which isn’t too surprising.”
Recent reports have even suggested that Rowling asked Zaslav not to do the ones that were planned “Cursed Child” movies. But if Zaslav wants to make Emmerich’s idea a reality, we can be sure he’ll pull it off with or without Rowling.

Voldemort’s Return
As you may know Ralph Fiennes debuted as Voldemort in 2005 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, then her character disintegrated in 2012 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. But it looks like he could still be back on the big screen. On the red carpet at the New York premiere of The menu, Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes spoke to Variety about playing the big bad again in future projects. He was asked if he would like to come back and he replied – “Yes of course. No doubt about it.

One would have thought that since Fiennes is a big supporter of JK Rowling, he might not have wanted to come back for Voldemort. After all, he even defended her against “verbal violence” and the death threats he received because of his transphobic views. But obviously he should be professional and keep it all separate. And that’s what he does. Voldemort was the most important role of his career and he would surely return if there was a chance.
For those wondering how he returns, the story of The cursed child resumes nineteen years after the Deathly Hallows, and it’s because of Voldemort’s daughter Delphi that the evil wizard returns. Let’s just hope his comeback will be on the big screen in the next 3-4 years.
