The Disney+ Andor show sets new benchmarks in terms of storytelling in the Star Wars universe. The show tells the story of simple people who rise up when they can no longer bear the crushing weight of the Empire. And it does without any visible Jedis and great lightsaber fights. However, the show recently put War in Star Wars with a great battle sequence that reminded us of an MCU movie.
Luthen Rael Eliminates Empire TIE Fighters
In episode 11 of Andor, we see Luthen Rael’s ship, the Fondor, being detected by the Empire. He tries to get out of the situation with a fake Aldeeran code, but they don’t buy that lie. In fact, they are increasingly suspicious. So they turn on their tractor beam, and it traps Luthen in its beam.
But Luther has experience and he is ready. It fires back and the projectiles it ejects are pulled towards the tractor beam at high speed by itself. It’s a big moment. But he can’t celebrate because the Empire is sending 3 TIE fighters and a bomber after him. But the battle begins and ends almost instantly.
Luthen takes out the big guns and big lasers right off the bat. He first uses the gun to take out one of the TIE Fighters and the bomber. Then he rotates his ship and uses the lasers to take out the other two TIEs. And this sequence reminded us of a scene from Iron Man 2 of the MCU.
Andor Parallels The MCU
In the movie Iron Man 2, Ivan Vanko’s armored unmanned drones surround Tony Stark and James Rhodes. Seeing no way out, Tony tells James to get down and activates the lasers on his hands. He then turns around with the lasers on and cuts the armors in half.
But the two lasers coming out of Luthen’s ship also remind us of the Grand Inquisitor’s lightsaber. And it’s a great visual parallel to that, too.
