The 25th GQ Men of the Year was star-studded business as usual, and Marvel veterans Charlie Cox and Andrew Garfield finally found some time to catch up. A lifetime ago, these two Brits started together as aspiring actors and are already known for their lifelong friendship. And it wasn’t long before each found their way through Hollywood before finally landing in Marvel’s custody.
As leaders of their own superhero oeuvre, the pair have accomplished a lot in their limited runs in the MCU. And just as mega studio CBM finds a way to bring them back again, fate, too, unites old friends in a celebration of achievement and nostalgia.

Charlie Cox toasts friend Andrew Garfield at GQ party
As the resident Daredevil of Marvel Studios and the mainstream Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was inevitable for Charlie Cox to find a way to bring up fellow Marvel actor and longtime friend Andrew Garfield during his GQ toast. Men of the Year. to party. However, in a humorous turn of events, Cox trolls the Tick, tick… Boom! actor in the most adorable way possible.

As the evening wore on and Charlie Cox took the stage, he referenced Andrew Garfield’s innate diverse potential and treasure trove of talent when he called out the latter. “One of, if not the greatest actor of our generation.” Cox then jokingly called the No coming home actor for outperforming and adding “another very good year” to his endless list of accomplishments and for obtaining “his legacy as the third greatest Spider-Man of all time.
Andrew Garfield’s lasting legacy in Tick, tick… Boom!
For Charlie Cox, the evening hosted by GQ gave him carte blanche to endlessly troll Andrew Garfield and his wealth of accomplishments. Considering how 2021 had been one of those years that just kept giving, Cox invoked Garfield’s performance in Jonathan Larson’s film adaptation. tick, tick… Boom! by indirectly telling a story of yesteryear:
“A few years ago I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who lamented the seemingly limitless talents of our friend, and last man of the year tonight, Mr Andrew Garfield. I said ‘it’ is really boring, isn’t there anything he can’t do?’ »
Apparently the friend had told Cox that Garfield horribly tanked his Sweet Charity audition at drama school because he couldn’t sing “The Rhythm of Life” and that was top tier information for Cox as he revealed – “So you can imagine how thrilled we were when we found out he had committed to a project that couldn’t succeed. All singing, all dancing, Tick, Tick…Boom!

The film went on to earn Andrew Garfield a Best Actor Oscar nomination as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Tick, tick… Boom! itself was nominated for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy and was one of the best movies released of 2021.
