Fake actor-celebrity rivalries are just the funniest to see. There’s Anthony Mackie and Tom Holland who keep pulling each other’s legs. Then there’s the Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon rivalry that’s been going on for ages. But the biggest and most valuable of all is the one involving Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. It keeps giving, and Ryan Reynolds has his own take on how and why their rivalry exists.
The rivalry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman
These two beloved actors have been friends and rivals ever since they teamed up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This movie obviously slaughtered Wade Wilson, but since Deadpool has his own solo movie, Reynolds has been trying to convince Jackman to do another Marvel movie with him. And Jackman had denied it until Deadpool entered the MCU. Amid all the drama, the two actors also continued their legendary banter.

The rivalry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is so famous that they also used it to market their respective businesses (Aviation Gin and The Laughing Man coffee). And recently, they went on to announce their reunion at Dead Pool 3. It’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing a lot more in the years to come (at least until Secret Wars for sure!).

How it all began
But when Reynolds appeared on the SmartLess podcast recently, he spoke to hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett (via CinemaBlend). And during their conversation, the issue of the rivalry between Reynolds and Jackman came up. Bateman asked how their constant verbal feud started and the free guy the actor replied:
“You know Hugh Jackman is…I really shouldn’t say that, but he…he makes kindness look like murder.” I mean he really is the nicest guy you’ve ever met. And that drives me crazy sometimes… He really is the real deal.
I want to understand that to some degree, so sometimes we hate and berate the things that we can’t understand. So I tend to hate and pick on Hugh, and he reciprocates of course because he’s nothing if not a sportsman. And that’s kind of it. But in reality, he’s like the sherpa of my life. He’s one of the best guys I know. »
The jokes of Jackman and Reynolds are so fun to watch, we wish they would go on forever. And it’s quite surprising that they keep finding new and innovative ways to exact revenge.
