Damien Chazelle’s film that aims to redefine the decadent era of the 1920s is chaotic beyond our expectations, says star Margot Robbie. The business of the whole, Babylon has already done some tricks on the internet because of the glimpse of madness that reigns over every frame of the film’s first trailer.
But even beyond that, the kind of promotional fuel that went into the movie’s launch only served to heighten fan expectations. Now Margot Robbie goes one step further and invokes the holy grail of all debauchery – the wolf of Wall Street in reference.

At Margot Robbie’s Babylon Surpass the heights of decadence
For each era that has succeeded, there has been a response to the reaction of its predecessors. Thematically speaking, the unfailing period of the Enlightenment marked by rationality, logic and reason above all succeeds the romantic period defined by the rustic, the sublime and the art of finding beauty in the simplicity of things. Likewise, the decadent era of excess and debauchery originated in response to the thematic elements of its predecessor, and it was here that Damien Chazelle found inspiration for the sensational epic, Babylon.

In his attempt to portray the industry as it was in the age of the introduction of sound technology, the director focuses his lens more on the carnal hedonism of the times rather than transition and evolution. of Hollywood from mimetic films to “talkies”. Although the two themes overlap in Babylonthe overload of artistry in Chazelle’s ambitious 3-hour tale is a documentation of the degeneration and decay of morality and the obsession with material superficiality. Babylon at the turn of the 20th century is a cannonball of immorality, vice, emotions and rejection of all that is moderate and reprehensible.
Margot Robbie sets the bar high for Damien Chazelle’s film
At a promotional event for Babylon, Margot Robbie impressively condenses the film’s elevator pitch and manages to heighten audiences’ already heightened hopes and expectations for the ensemble film. While talking about what viewers might experience this Christmas, the actress who landed her starring role in Martin Scorsese the wolf of Wall Street in 2013, claimed,
“I remember being on set for [The Wolf Of Wall Street] and thinking, I’ll never be in a crazy movie like this again. And then I did Babylon. There is a dizzying amount of debauchery. One of the most disturbing and chaotic scenes I’ve ever seen is in this movie, and it involves a fight with a snake. I won’t tell you who wins or loses this fight, but believe me, it’s crazy.

Damien Chazelle further adds, “Hollywood at the time was a place where, from the most depraved animalistic behaviors, emerged these works of art so beautiful and alluring. Hollywood in the 1920s was truly a cesspool of vice, hubris and excess. We tried to put that on screen. All.”
Certainly, Martin Scorsese’s take on the life of Jordan Belfort and his band of cocaine-riddled banking epics is an unparalleled masterpiece in itself, but if Margot Robbie and Damien Chazelle’s claims are true, Babylon is ready to challenge boundaries and contain the potential to be the masterpiece that will define and immortalize Robbie and Chazelle.
Babylon premieres on December 23, 2022.
