Jimmy Kimmel is ready to host the next 2023 edition of the Oscars. The popular American talk show host is roped in to host the 95th Academy Awards. As he’s already excited to do the job for the third time, Kimmel confirms that the infamous Will Smith slapping incident will surely be part of the upcoming ceremony.
The Ted 2 The actor also hosted the big awards ceremony at its 89th and 90th editions. But out of all the years, the 2022 Oscars drew a huge following due to the infamous Will Smith-Chris Rock fiasco. Appearing in an interview with Extratv, the 55-year-old TV host and comedian revealed he couldn’t ignore the controversial incident even if he wanted to.

The 2022 Oscars witnessed a shocking moment when Will Smith stormed onto the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock. The internet has been divided as the stars have become a hot topic of discussion. Will Smith was eventually banned by the Academy for 10 years.

The infamous incident happened when Chris Rock commented on Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and the joke didn’t sit well with the King Richard actor. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from a condition called alopecia areata which causes massive hair loss. Referring to Demi Moore’s unique haircut in G.I. Jane, Rock remarked:
“Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see it”
The joke didn’t sit well with the couple and Independence Day The star took to the stage and slapped Chris Rock, saying:
“Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”
This incident had a major impact on Smith’s life. He later also posted a video on his social media and apologized to the comedian.

Jimmy Kimmel claimed that it’s nothing new for the format to bring back old incidents and sadly, he has to do his part too:
“It has to happen one way or another. You know, I don’t necessarily want to shine a light on that, because for comedians, you know, comedians are crazy about that… It’s one of those things that for a group of people who find everything funny, it’s , like, not funny, you know? But of course you must. Just like when they read the wrong winner one year when I hosted the Oscars, we had to mention it the next year.
The 2023 edition of the Oscars will take place on March 12, 2023 and it will be exciting to see how the event unfolds. You never know, there could also be another iconic moment ahead of us.
