The advancement of modern medicine has been quite drastic in the years and has developed exponentially. Yet, there still is a large area left to uncover, with new diseases being found mostly every month. Some diseases still don’t have proper treatment and are incurable.
These diseases are mostly very rare in occurrence and only affect a few people every year. Diseases like these are mostly genetic, and people with the age of 0-3 suffer from it the most.
The Condition Of Rare Disease Treatment In The U.S
These diseases can be life-threatening and can cause natural deaths at a very early age.
There are many diseases as per medical science, which are not that common. Such diseases happen to one in a million, and hence they are called rare diseases.
A group of experts has conducted research on this less researched aspect of medical science and found that situation of patients who suffer from such diseases is not at all that good.
The cost of treatment is very high, and in many cases, even the line of treatment is not that clear to experts or clinicians. In some cases, it is found that tracking the disease was also delayed due to a lack of resources.
The knowledge about these diseases among the general public is also very scarce, and people tend to ignore such symptoms, which in turn lead to fatal conditions. It is very important to spread awareness amongst them for better understanding and knowledge about such illness.
As medical technology is less developed for the treatment of such diseases has not been found yet. Some of them are either partially curable or straight up entirely incurable. This makes the treatments hard to find and feasibly expensive.
Studies show that most of the people suffering from such illnesses don’t even know what they are diagnosed with and never really get themselves checked. The majority of them don’t even know what the reason is for their conditions.
The feasibility conditions differ from place to place and also depend on the private insurance companies dealing with it. Some places have a higher chance of genetically developed diseases which increases the rate at which it affects people in different geographical conditions. Not all companies offer insurance based on a particular disease. Some diseases are exempted or not covered.
The average annual cost of such treatments of these rare diseases is nearly a 400billion dollars (United States) which is the same as the medical costs of Alzheimer’s, cancer, etc. These treatments include machinery for treatments, thus also increasing the fees, which makes it even harder to treat.
Studies have proved that treatment of such diseases per patient exceeds the cost with compassion to the non-rare diseases. There is roughly a difference of a hundred thousand dollars between rare and non-rare diseases per person each day.
One thing about the rare diseases is that they can be identified quickly through a normal medical checkup as most of the symptoms of such diseases are quite similar, and due to gaining it from a very young age, the patient spends most of their lives in the hospital room which incurred a big medical expense.
Due to the increasing rate of advancement in medical technology, many machines have been developed to treat such patients. It does not offer a 100% cure rate but does help them get a better life rather than just suffering from them. Shortly there might be even more of these diseases, so everyone needs to be prepared for that.
We need to find new technologies, new and innovative ways to treat these patients, which in turn helps in reducing the treatment costs and time. This will help in increasing the county’s productivity as a whole.
