Saliva Testing Kits For COVID-19

COVID-19 testing kits help to test the presence of the microbial organism in the mouth, according to the study conducted by Rutgers. These novel kits helped to measure the oral microbiome through saliva-based testing kits. Saliva-based COVID-19 testing kits provide accuracy in assessing oral microbe.

Testing of Coronavirus infection has been a big issue since the day it started spreading. With time the experts came up with new ways and methods with the help of which it became easy to detect if the concerned person suffers from the infection or not.

The latest development in this regard is testing the infection with the help of a saliva test which is believed as easier and quicker than the swab test and other methods presently prevailing for the detection. As per the latest study, this method is proven cost-effective and accurate compared to the other methods.

Saliva is a mixture of liquid and secretion by the glands into the mouth. This secretion is stimulated when delicious foods are placed in front of you. Their secretion provides lubrication for chewing and swallowing. These make digestion of food better.

The microbial environment in the mouth can impact the lungs. Every day we inhale a little amount of our saliva, which makes the risk of microbes reaching up to our lungs higher, stated famous author Abigail Armstrong. Thus, a link between mouth and lungs microbes is developed. Through collected samples, accuracy in measuring oral microbes can be tested.

The oral microbiome can be the bacteria found in animals and humans, stated according to the study published in the journal NPJ Biofilms. Microbiomes are the first to test the accuracy of COVID-19 testing kits at home, which is based on saliva. These saliva-testing kits use novel preservatives to maintain genetic material [RNA] in the SAR-CoV-2 virus.

To study the mouth microbiome, samples of saliva are collected and processed with or without COVID-19. The effect of microbes on the mouth and then up to the lungs is examined further. The oral microbe is strongly connected with the lung microbiome. The lung is associated with inflammation in the presence of lung microbiomes.

A novel preservative included in saliva test kits maintains the RNA genetic material of the SAR-CoV-2 virus. But no study suggests that it could also preserve bacterial genetic material. Saliva-based SARS-CoV-2 test measures the accuracy of the SARS-CoV-19 oral microbiome.

The researchers collected saliva samples subjecting 22 participants with or without preservatives. On the next day, six of their participants came with another set of samples to study their microbiome research over time. Then each set of the saliva sample is compared simultaneously to measure in both the types of saliva collection.

The research on saliva collected sample found that sample collected through COVID-19 testing kits is allowed to measure accurate microbes in the mouth compared to sample collected through kits without preservatives.

In this finding, examining both the effects of saliva collection with or without preservatives is studied and helps measure microbiome depth in the mouth. The human saliva is composed of DNA, and with the help of DNA extraction of saliva, we could reach up to the significant impact of microbiome composition on the lung.

Furthermore, this saliva collection method increases a better understanding of the systematic effects of COVID test kits, and new therapies may develop to treat COVID-19. These microbian-centered therapies help the number of researchers to treat COVID infected systems effectively.

The senior author Martin Blaser said that our study on saliva specimens continuously volunteer to participate in COVID investigations. The samples collected from 22 subjects provided two saliva samples, one with preservatives and another without preservatives.
