Before the new variant of COVID, Omicron, was discovered, residents in the United States began making plans for the holidays and celebrations, but this news variant may enforce people to celebrate within the four walls.
The United States Should Be Well Prepared To Fight The Omicron
The new Covid 19 variant Omicron has been discovered in South Africa, and cases have been reported in a few other countries as well. The cases were mostly from South African travelers. This has caused concern around the world because Omicron is thought to be more contagious than the Delta variant and spreads very fastly. South Africa and seven other neighboring countries have already been barred from entering the United States and this decision was instantly taken by the Joe Biden Administration.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, an infectious disease expert in the United States, has commented on the new variant and advised people to be more prepared for the fifth wave of coronavirus and have urged the unvaccinated citizens to get their vaccination done and adults who are eligible for the booster shots must avail its benefits to stay protected from this new variant.
Parts of the United States have launched an all-out offensive against the new, highly transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19. Dr. Anthony Fauci has issued a warning that the variant is most likely already in circulation in the country.
In New York City, hospital admissions have been limited, and the purchase of medical supplies has begun. The non-urgent medical services have been put on hold in the major hospitals to ensure there is no shortage of general and ICU beds in case the new variant outbreak is high.
According to Dr. Fauci, It is a true fact that the new variant of the virus is not detected in the US yet but it has shown a high degree of transmissibility in the other parts of the world. There are already travel cases in Israel and Belgium, United Kingdom and India.” He further added, “when you have a virus like this, there are more chances of spreading it all around the world.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci stated that there is a greater chance that the United States will face the fifth wave of infection, and he has warned that cases of the new Omicron variant have already spread to a number of countries due to the lack of a travel ban and it will keep on increasing the upcoming days. Through the WHO is against the travel ban on these African countries due to its outbreak in certain parts.
Dr. Fauci, as usual, urged Americans to get vaccinated as soon as possible and to get booster shots as well. According to Fauci, this can significantly reduce any increase.
Fauci believes that current vaccinations can provide protection against the Omicron, but other critical information such as transmissibility, severity, and variant characteristics will take at least two to three weeks to be fully definitive.
The Omicron variant is especially concerning because it contains over 50 mutations in the spike protein, which allows the virus to bind to human cells.
The health care experts believe that the current vaccines may be effective against the Omicron, but they are unsure. It will be difficult to announce any definitive information about the Omicron until the next two weeks, and people must continue to take appropriate precautions against the virus.
