The Second Omicron Variant Found In Minnesota

On Wednesday when people were heading to their works, the news channels and websites got flooded with the news of the first case of the newly detected Covid 19 variant “Omicron” which has been labeled by the World Health Organization as the “variant of concern”.

As per reports, the second case of the Omicron variant has been detected in Minnesota and the lab testing confirms the country’s second and the state’s first Omicron strain case.

Second Omicron Variant Found In Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) released a public statement that the state has registered its first Omicron variant case and the person was traveling domestically and returned from New York City after attending an Annemie event at Javits Center.

The case has been found under the Minnesota Department of Health Surveillance program and it is considered to be one of the best surveillance programs in the United States. As per the data provided, the infected person belongs to the Hennepin county of Minnesota. While testing it was found that he was fully vaccinated and only possessed very mild symptoms.

Now it will be a big challenge for the health authorities to find people who all were present at the Javits Center to attend the event.

Dr. Anthony Fauci and other high-grade medical professionals in the United States are repeatedly saying that the amount of data available is not sufficient enough to announce the conclusion. The severity and transmissibility of this new coronavirus variant have raised certain questions amongst the researchers and they are working hard to find the answers to save the people from dying.

After the second case in Minnesota, the vaccines are also under the bar of scrutiny and as already said by the CDC, the effectiveness of vaccines is reducing with time, and all the eligible adults in the states must get their booster shots as soon as possible. The booster shots will increase the immunity level and allow people to fight the Omicron variant, resulting in reducing the hospitalization and death rates.

Minnesota is the leading state in the USA that has developed a very strong testing network to detect Covid. The infrastructure is perfect the testing tools allowed us to detect early omicron variants in the state, announced by the Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz.

He also stated that we knew this variant will enter our borders too and we have not taken this as a surprise as we already built the network since its outbreak news in South Africa. Surely, this is a concern now for us and our health agencies to curb this variant from further spreading.

The virus carries 50 mutants which makes it more infectious and will travel more fastly than the delta variant. Though the severity level is still a big question for all the medical experts around the globe.

The Gov. further stated that our state citizens understand the concern and are following the basic covid 19 precautions and rules to stay safe and protected.
