December 4, the number of Covid infection cases in the US has witnessed a surge since the outbreak of the Delta variant. The hospitalization rate and patients are at their peak due to the rise in the delta variant and on the other hand, the emergence of the new Covid variant ‘Omicron’ is a matter of concern for the CDC and the government.
CDC Recommends The US Citizens To Take Precautions Against ‘Omicron’
To bring the situation under control and ensure stability government is introducing several norms and restrictions for international travelers. It is also making efforts to increase the contact tracing of the newfound Covid patients. The motive of the administration is to slow down the progression of the Covid variant and defend its citizens.
In a News conference on Friday, Dr. Anthony Fauci urged all American citizens to get their booster shot and vaccination dose at the earliest. He accentuated the significance of vaccination and its role in bringing the infection curve downwards
Dr. Fauci said that the Covid vaccine is the only way to shield oneself against the infection, especially for the unvaccinated ones. He also asserted that the Covid vaccine can successfully neutralize antibodies against all the Covid variants.
Although there is very little information and research available on the new Covid variant, one must be agile and take all the precautionary measures. CDC suggests the citizens follow Covid’s appropriate behavior such as wearing masks, sanitization, and social distancing even while traveling. Also, The Biden Administration has mandated the use of masks at security checks, boarding times, in the plane, and even during public transportation.
Dr. Fauci gave assurance to the citizens that soon the clinical trials and studies will give valuable information about the new variant. The severity, infection ratio, contagiousness, transmission rate of the new variant is crucial. It will help us to know the scope of the Covid variant and enable one to take precautionary measures accordingly. As per some studies, this new variant carries more mutants than the delta variant which shows that the Omicron variant will spread at a much faster rate.
In the meantime, CDC is providing continuous support for genomic sequencing and expanding the scrutiny of international travelers. While addressing the public, Dr. Rochelle Walensky the director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, “Though the new variant has reached the US, one must not forget that the majority of the Covid cases in the US is because of the Delta variant.
The highly contagious variant is leading to a surge in the number of Covid cases across the US and leading to more hospitalization and death rate.
Recently around five to six cases of the new Covid variant ‘Omicron’ were found in various parts of the US. Several studies and researches are being carried out by medical experts and scientists to study the characteristics of the new variant. Positively, there is no evidence stating the severity of the virus but as per the South African researchers, the symptoms are very mild and even some infected patients got cured at home only. Hence, the center recommends its citizens follow all the standard precautionary measures to protect themselves from the Covid infection.
