The World Health Organization on 24 November 2021 introduced this new threat in the form of the Omicron variant to the world. The variant is considered a thread as it possesses more than 50 mutations and is also expected to travel faster than the delta variant as it carries fewer mutations. Different states of the US are witnessing the rise in the Omicron variant.
The Delta Variant Will Be The Bigger Life Threat
As per certain reports, the risk of delta variant is still prevailing and will remain the biggest threat to the people in the USA. The delta variant cases are increasing, although only a few cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in different states.
The CDC statistical reports say that the average daily cases in the United States are increasing at an alarming rate and on top, this new variant will add its own cases, and surely the hospitalization rate will increase. At present, the US is witnessing more than 95,000 cases per day and the major proportion of the cases is from the delta variant.
The decrease in the temperature will give rise to more cases and it is a big threat for the people. especially for the unvaccinated citizens.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been keeping a keen eye on the virus and respective cases. The US CDC Dr. Rochelle Walensky showed the concern and stated the quote from the WHO, where the organization labeled the new variant as the “variant of Concerns”. The Director also said that we are working closely with the medical authorities in the states and finding out the real threat.
The CDC has started working on the contact tracing as it will be very significant for us to find the main source in order to curb omicron variant cases.
Although right now the major threat for the hospitals is the increase in the infected patients of the delta variant.
Delta variant has been ruling the coronavirus infections in the US for the past few months and continues to do so. The major causes of the Delta variant are coming from the unvaccinated citizens in the US. As per the reports from CDC, more than 59 million American citizens are unvaccinated and in order to stay protected and safe, all the individuals must get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Also, various studies and evidence state that the only way to reduce the harmful effect of the Delta variant is to get vaccinated and take the booster shots. Dr. Fauci also suggested all the unvaccinated people receive their vaccines and reduce the threat from the already vaccinated individuals.
CDC is also sure that the rise in cases is due to the weather changes and thus hospitals are getting occupied by the Covid patients and there might be a shortage of medical supplies and beds if the outbreak of Omicron variant is high.
Also, the cases will increase further due to increase in the travel as people will be heading to their homes to celebrate the Christmas festival. The important thing to note is, fully vaccinated citizens with a booster shot, are less prone to the deadly effects of the virus. Besides, the immunity of the partially vaccinated is not strong enough to prevent the entry of viruses into the system.
