According to the data released by the US CDC the fully vaccinated population in the United States has reached around 60 Percent and out of which, approx. 23% are eligible for the booster vaccine. In the last few months, the number of Covid cases across the US are rising at an alarming rate. Owing to this, the US government, FDA, and CDC are urging citizens to come forward and take their shot of vaccination. On December 6th, 2021, it was reported that around 79,660 vaccination doses were administered in 24 hours in the State of New York. This is a remarkable statistic since the introduction of the Covid Vaccine, Moreover, the number of deaths due to Covid State-wide was 49. The average of 4.82% persists in NYC.
The New York government is taking several steps and introducing various mandates to increase the vaccination and minimize Covid cases. Governor Kathy Hochul while addressing the current situation on December 6th gave a statement saying, “Since the winter and the festive season is approaching, there is a great chance of spreading the new omicron variant and it has become more essential to follow the basic coronavirus rules set by the federal medical authorities which include, social distancing, proper masking and vaccinating to minimize the chances of infection.
When 5 cases were detected in the state, she from her Twitter handle confirmed the news and asked people to stay calm. The severity and transmissibility of the new subtype of covid 19 still require much analysis and scientists and other medical researchers are working on the same.
She also emphasized by stating, “Though the Covid still persists, we are at a very good stage now and the omicron cases must not create a panic situation in the state. Today, we have all the resources, tools, vaccines, and medical facilities to fight against the virus. However, it is our responsibility to prevent ourselves from the infection. The eligible citizens must take their vaccination dose and booster shots to safeguard their lives against the virus.”
