The United States has now confirmed multiple occurrences of the omicron variant, which was first observed in Botswana but has now been spotted in at least 35 regions, as medical experts predicted.
According To WHO African Covid Hospitalization Rates Are Increasing
The World Health Organization designated omicron as a version of a potential problem that will affect the immune system of humans. The WHO pointed out earlier that the worldwide threat of the Omicron strain is “extremely high” due to the availability of the number of mutations which is 50, such as on the virus’s sudden increase in protein, however, there are many unanswered questions, including knowledge on its infectiousness, potential consequences, and influence on the innate immune system.
The first case of the omicron subtype in the United States was found in a fully vaccinated citizen with common travel records on 1 December. According to medical experts, the symptoms were very mild and not severe.
Also as per the officials the person, who wasn’t even eligible for a booster dose, decided to seek COVID-19 screening after coming back to San Francisco and was found to be of omicron variant.
Even after approving the contact tracing method to curb the further spread of the Omicron variant in the United States by the CDC, the cases have been on a roller coaster ride and crossed many borders of different states.
As Per the CDC reports, the official average daily cases have crossed the tally of more than 100,000 and it is expected to increase more during the Christmas holidays and extensive winter season.
Colorado declared a case of the omicron variant in an Arapahoe County female who had returned from a trip to South Africa. According to health authorities, the infected citizen was qualified for a booster shot but had not yet acquired it.
According to some sources, the hospitalization rate in South Africa is increasing at a very fast pace and has seen a surge in the infected patients by more than 3 times.
However, the World Health Organization officials are suggesting that the data and analysis available are too soon to determine whether the omicron variant is to blame for the rise in drastic Covid-19 cases or not. Scientists and medical researchers need some more good amount of data to come to a conclusion.
According to Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO Covid technical lead, the symptoms are not strong, although there have been findings of cases where the illness has become more extreme. Till now there is no news of death due to the omicron variant in the US.
The WHO officials are strongly advising that everyone, irrespective of vaccine coverage, wear masks and keep their distance communally. The cases might increase in the United States in the upcoming few weeks as more people will be traveling to their homes for the festive season and with them, the Covid 19 infection will also travel.
