The emergence of the Omicron variant has been a new issue for medical experts because of the mutations that carry the risk of higher and faster spread.
As per the US CDC, the daily average toll of Covid 19 infections in the United States has increased to 120,000 patients. It has raised the risks and thus, doctors and research experts are looking for better ways to fight the infection and prevent hospitalizations.
The Use Of Antiviral Pills Against The Omicron Covid 19 Variant
Pfizer has already developed the booster shot to reduce the spread of the infection and Is contributing further to a better cause. Pfizer has come up with a bigger breakthrough in the form of antiviral pills. The US Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of the Merck Antiviral pill for the treatment of the Covid 19 virus as it showed promising results and reduced the hospitalization and death rate by 50 percent. The medical researchers are expecting that the antiviral pills will be effective against the Omicron variant.
Although as per the healthcare officials in the United States, the antiviral pills must not be considered as the sole treatment for the covid 19, only a helping hand for the vaccination and booster shots.
The UD CDC is expecting that the pills will be effective against the omicron variant and will help in curbing the virus to spread further. If these pills prove to be effective, they can be a big breakthrough in the research and a way to fight back Coronavirus in the long run.
The final clinical trials are ongoing, and the final results will be out soon and as per Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, our team has worked on developing efficient and effective pills and we are confident that the results will be positive.
As per the reports, the antiviral pills from Pfizer have shown great results and reduced the hospitalization and death rate by around 89 percent amongst the covid 19 patients. Pfizer has applied for approval.
The Pfizer CEO also commented that the two doses of the vaccine are not sufficient to fight against the omicron and to overcome the effect of the virus and advocated the use of the third dose of vaccine for the fully vaccinated.
Also, if the variants of covid 19 are being introduced this way, surely there are great chances that people might need to get the fourth dose as well by the next year.
The World Health Organization has claimed that the vaccines are becoming ineffective and are getting worn out after a specific time which may allow the infection to grow faster even in the fully vaccinated individual. And hence the only way to increase immunity is to take booster shots. Alongside, antiviral pills will aid extra support to prevent the growth of infection further.
