The U.S. seems to be in the red zone as of date. The rates of transmission of the new strain are also supposedly higher than the past variants.  Some states like Wisconsin, Illinois, Georgia, and Alabama are supposedly the worst hit. 

The under-populated zones ate likely showing lower rates of infections today. Wheeler county, Trinity, and Oregon are amongst them. The vaccination speed is also varying across regions. If recent research reports are to be believed, Vermont, Puerto Rico, and Rhode Island seem to have the highest vaccination rates. Whereas, the states such as Alabama and Wyoming, seem to report the lowest vaccination rates. 

Now, coming to some serious figures related to the Covid-19 surge. The U.S. has already recorded more than 52.7 million cases of Covid-19 so far. And, above eight lac deaths have been reported. Johns Hopkins University data has revealed these figures. 

Currently, almost 205 million Americans are fully-vaccinated, according to the CDC. Today, standing in the December of 2021, the majority of cases are that of the Omicron variant. It is able to dodge various defenses that proved useful earlier. 

Additionally, the FDA has also approved the Paxlovid pill from Pfizer. It is supposed to reduce the severity of the disease by 90%. The FDA has recently authorized a second one as well, called the molnupiravir. It is said to prevent progression into serious phases of the disease. 

As Omicron threats loom overhead, the government is making all arrangements possible to keep infections mild, so that hospitalizations can be prevented. More hospitalizations lead to huge pressure on the healthcare fraternity. With testing centers also overflowing, it has to be kept in control, believes the government. 

Currently, there is a huge demand for molnupiravir across various states in the U.S. The medical fraternity is coming up with more new-age treatment options today. The U.S. White House reports, that they are trying, by all means, to keep people safe. 

Texas is amongst those states that have a high number of Omicron infections. So, there is a short supply of the drug there. Moreover, their hospitals have also run out of monoclonal antibodies called Sotrovimab. 

CDC has released various guidelines and measures to keep things under observation. Amongst the various measures that are suggested by CDC, wearing masks has been given priority above all else. 

Additionally, the CDC has also reduced the isolation time for the Covid-infected and those who have come in close contact with a Covid patient. For those affected the isolation starts from the day, the incumbent tests positive. The isolation period has been brought down to five days. 

Those who come in close contact with an infected person, but are fully vaccinated can skip the isolation and wear a mask mandatorily for at least ten days. If the individual is not vaccinated or boosted, the incumbent shall have to maintain quarantine for five days and wear a mask all the time, for another five days. 

This is the current state of affairs, concerning the Omicron threat and Covid-19 statistics in general from the U.S.
