Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser of the US Central Government and renowned medical expert has been the biggest admirer of booster shots and is considered essential for the entire population.

The US FDA Has Authorized The Use Of Booster Shots For Children

During the initial launch of the booster shots, adults of 65 years and above were only eligible to receive the booster shots and with the rise of the delta variant in the United States, President Biden’s Administration enhanced the eligibility criteria to receive the booster shots.

During the month of October 2021, The Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of booster shots for adults of 18 years and above.

The eligibility criteria must be fulfilled in order to receive the booster shot and it includes, the recipient must have received the second jab of either Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 6 months ago and a single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 2 months ago.

In the month of December 2021, The US FDA further expanded the eligibility for the booster shots and added the teens of 16-17 years to the list of eligible recipients of booster shots

Furthermore, there was high demand being raised by many medical experts in the country to further expand the booster shot eligibility for children between 12-15 years as they are at high risk of getting caught with the omicron variant of Covid 19 virus.

Now as per the latest reports available, The US Food and Drug Administration has now authorized adolescents of 12-15 years to receive the booster shots. The official stated that this step was necessary due to the highly contagious nature of the omicron version and this age group was at high risk.

The FDA gave approval to the Pfizer booster vaccine as an emergency use for this age group. Now everyone above 12 years can receive the booster shots.

Also as per the latest developments, the medical agency has also decided to reduce the time gap between the initial dose of vaccines and booster shots to five months against the initial time of six months.

Medical experts in the United States are praising this step taken by the FDA as it was argued that the need to adapt to the new changes in the pandemic was required and looking at the current status of the omicron variant, the booster shots are the best alternative which will not only save a life but also offers long term benefits to facing any further new variant.

The health care officials are continuously urging the entire population to get vaccinated. They are now urging the parents to allow them to get jabbed and if eligible receive the booster shot at the earliest.
