After the introduction of the omicron variant in the world, The World Health Organization termed it as “variants of Concern” and now it seems like the name given perfectly justifies the title.
The Omicron Variant Specific Vaccine Is Likely To Be Available By March
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the country has seen a major surge in the omicron variant which became dominant just in 10 days since its outbreak in the United States.
Currently, the average number of daily cases in the US has surpassed more than 700,000 and giving sleepless nights to the government and public health department. The hospitals are under a lot of stress due to rising hospital admissions and also, the death cases are increasing.
Another major problem which the doctors are going through is due to the soaring kids covid 19 cases and in some parts of the USA, the pediatric cases have tripled and the hospitalization admissions are seeing a new upward curve.
Since the initial days of the omicron variant in the world, scientists and medical researchers are claiming the fact that alone initial 2 doses of the covid 19 vaccine is not sufficient enough to fight against the omicron strain.
Right after the analysis, the CEO of Moderna announced that his team of scientists is studying the new subtype of covid 19 and within 100 days we will be able to manufacture an omicron variant vaccine so that the lives of people in the US can be saved.
Earlier this year, Dr. Anthony Fauci who is the Chief Medical Adviser of the White House Administration had stated that there is no need to develop variant-specific vaccines and rather the companies must put all efforts in optimizing the currently available vaccines and strengthening the booster shots supply for the population.
Although the two-dose vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer are not sufficient enough to handle the infection caused by the Omicron strain and an extra layer of protection is required, stated Dr. Fauci recommended avail the benefits of the booster shots as soon as possible because it offers more security and reduces the chances of hospitalization and deaths by 90 percent.
Now According to the CEO of Pfizer, Albert Bourla has announced that the omicron strain-specific vaccine will be hitting the markets by March 2022 and the company has already started the manufacturing process for the same.
He also stated that even after criticism, Pfizer took the decision and worked to offer an extra level of security to the people of the United States and the world.
The upcoming vaccine will offer a much better level of protection against the infection caused by the omicron strain in the body.
As per the CEO, the new vaccine has the capacity to fight other variants too. The company will ready the doses and make it amiable for the population in very little time.
