Jimmy Kimmel’s Statement On Oscar Nomination – Questioned The Oscar Nomination For Best Picture Of ‘Don’t Look Up Over Spider Man No Way Home

Jimmy Kimmel’s Statement on Oscar Nomination – Questioned The Oscar Nomination For Best Picture Of ‘Don’t Look Up Over Spider-Man No Way Home

The previous Oscar Academy host, Jimmy Kimmel questioned the Oscar nomination for best picture of ‘Don’t Look Up’ over ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home. He commented on this opinion in the episode of his late-night show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” which recently premiered on February 8, 2022.

Why Did Jimmy Kimmel Questioned The Oscar Nominations

Jimmy Kimmel used the section to call out the Academy voters for avoiding the “Spider-Man: No Way Home” which earned universally ecstatic reviews and around 1.7 Million worldwide.

‘Don’t Look Up’ got four Oscar nominations including best picture, best original score, best original screenplay, and best film editing. This is why Jimmy Kimmel asked, “How did (‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’) not get one of the 10 nominations for best picture? Forget the fact that the movie made $750 million (in the U.S.)and is still going. This was a great movie. It wasn’t in the top 10 best movies of the year? There were three Spider-Men in it. You’re telling me ‘Don’t Look Up’ was better than ‘Spider-Man?’ It most certainly was not.”

“Spider-Man: No way Home” earned the Oscar nomination only for best visual effects. Jimmy Kimmel gave respect to this honor and also asked the viewers the reason for avoiding the film for the category of best picture nomination. In 2022, the Oscar Academy changed many rules including the selection of 10 best picture nominees and this number of pictures is fixed too. This wild space for nomination gives hope for many people that the nomination will contain blockbuster films such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. But it remains as the only hope. This is the reason behind the questioning of the American television host, comedian, writer, and producer, Jimmy Kimmel.

“Even if you go by the critics reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Don’t Look Up’ got 46% and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has 90%. For god’s sake, ‘Jackass Forever’ has an 89%, why do best picture nominees have to be serious? When did that become a prerequisite for getting nominated for an Academy Award? You wanna know what happened?” Kimmel asked the viewers. He added his own answer to that question, “Voters looked at the list and saw the names Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep and they checked the box and then they put their kids in the car and went to see the movie ‘Spider-Man.’ And they loved it! But they didn’t vote for it.”

At the end of the talk, Kimmel shared a request too. He addresses Doctor strange and requests him to go back in time and make “Spider-Man: No Way Home” nominated for Best Picture. This voice is not only the voice of Jimmy Kimmel but also the voice of many audiences who expected “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in the academy nomination list of Best Picture.

The 2022 Oscar results will be announced Sunday, March 27.
