Allison became a sensation who crossed one million searches on the internet in weeks. The unintended fame she obtained was explained by her as “Even if none of it is illegal, it just feels really demeaning. I worked so hard for pole vaulting and all this other stuff, and it’s almost like that doesn’t matter,” she opened up in the Washington Post.

So much happened with Stokke in a short span of time. Allison never wished for fame like this; many of the news channels covered her story to emphasize the dangers of the internet being used as a medium to sexualize young people publicly.

The German weekly, Der Spiegel quoted “sex symbol against her will.” Framing women athletes in such a way can de-emphasize their sports achievements and can negatively impact their careers.
