Global Citizen published the letter today (May 22) in New York City at its inaugural “thought leadership conference,” Global Citizen NOW. The letter is part of their campaign for the year called “End Extreme Poverty NOW – Our Future can’t wait.”
5 Seconds of Summer Alessia Cara, Billy Porter, Chloe x Halle, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, Femi Kuti, Hugh Jackman, Mneskin, and Ricky Martin are among those who have signed the petition. The letter they wrote, along with hundreds of others, called on billionaires and business titans, rich nation heads (such as those from G20 and the G7 as well as the G20) as well as others who have a lot of influence to “stand up by fully committing the required money to solve the issues we face.”
“We must enhance opportunities for women throughout the world, remove institutional hurdles that keep people poor, and avoid a climate catastrophe,” the letter states. We can only solve these problems when we remove the obstacles which have hindered us from eradicating extreme poverty. We must also commit to spending levels that permit longer-term growth rather than short-term.

AS PER THE REPORT, the COVID-19 outbreak has caused extreme poverty to increase. As per Global Citizen, more than 100 million people have been pushed to live in poverty since the outbreak, which has erased six years of progress toward decreasing the global poverty rate. Based on UN Food Agency estimates (for AlJazeera), 45 million people could be hungry by 2022 if the authorities take swift action.
In this open letter, “the poorest people on our planet continue to suffer.” “They don’t have food, medical care, or education.” They’re facing the impacts of climate change that include a perpetual drought in some areas and the rising levels of the sea in some. They cannot feed their families on the table, access vital health and medical treatment, or gain equity, thus giving a better life to their children.

Meskin was on stage during his performance on the Global Citizen Live broadcast in Paris in September of last year, Coldplay, Eilish, and Finneas all performed with each other at the same time in New York, and Duran Duran was the main act in London. Coldplay is a favorite and is a frequent patron of Global Citizen, which has already launched projects to help the homeless in 2015, 2017, and 2018.

Charlie and Billie didn’t react to the video at the moment. However, they did respond to the video later.
