Man Of Steel’s Michael Shannon Almost Played Cable In ‘Deadpool 2’

Steel man star Michael Shannon almost played Cable in Deadpool 2.

Josh Brolin was in the unique position of being in two different Marvel movies in the same year. He first appeared in Avengers: Infinity War as Thanos, and also appeared in Deadpool 2 as a cable. However, another actor came quite close to playing this role, and in a different timeline, Steel man star Michael Shannon could have played the part.

When promoting the film High-speed train, Producer Kelly McCormick has confirmed that Michael Shannon is set to be the latest actor to join the club of being part of both DC and Marvel, jumping from Steel man as General Zod at Deadpool 2 as cable:

“Actually, he was almost Cable. Then there was kind of a hiccup conflict at the very last minute, and then we ended up reconnecting on this one, and we felt really lucky that this role was for him. Because Josh [Brolin] was so good as Cable, I can’t even imagine [what that would have been like].”

It would have been interesting to see how Michael Shannon brought Cable to life in Deadpool 2. On the one hand, seeing him in a more serious role in Steel man compared to taking part in an irreverent comic book movie, it would have been a tonal boost for fans of both universes. But maybe Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson would have made a conscious joke of kneeling in front of Zod.

Cable was last seen in Deadpool 2. Here is the synopsis:

After surviving a near-fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to achieve his dream of becoming Mayberry’s sexiest bartender while learning to come to terms with his lost sense of taste. Seeking to regain his lifelong spiciness, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, yakuza and a pack of sexually aggressive dogs as he travels the world to discover the importance of family, friendship and flavor – find a new taste for adventure and earn the coveted title of World’s Best Lover Coffee Mug.

Directed by David Leitch from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, the film stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, TJ Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Jack Kesy.

Deadpool 2 is now available in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD. Meanwhile, The man of steel Michael Shannon is set to reprise his role as General Zod in The flash.
