GOTG 3 Director James Gunn Responds To Vin Diesel’s Alpha Groot Remarks

James Gunn has responded to Vin Diesel’s claim that he will play ‘Alpha Groot’ in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is about to conclude the story that James Gunn started in 2014 guardians of the galaxy – the movie that introduced Vin Diesel as Groot in the MCU. The walking and talking tree, only able to utter the words “I am Groot”, instantly captured the hearts of the audience.

Following Groot’s death in the first Guardians movie and Rocket then pushed him back, the audience saw an adult Groot, a baby Groot, and a teenage Groot. Now fans are wondering if another version of the character could appear in Flight. 3.

Groot voice actor Vin Diesel previously portrayed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s Groot as “Alpha Groot”, but it seems director James Gunn wasn’t quite sure what he was talking about.

It doesn’t take much to ignite fans’ imaginations and Vin Diesel’s comments may have had some guardians of the galaxy fans are waiting for a whole new physical form for the character. However, James Gunn revealed that the comments were made before the actor had even read the script.

Clarifying that Vin Diesel was likely overstating his next – and possibly last – performance as Groot, James Gunn revealed on Twitter:

“Vin was thinking out loud – he hadn’t read Vol 3. What you saw at Comicon was Groot in Vol 3, and he’s not ‘Alpha Groot’.”

Looks like “Alpha Groot” won’t be an official title for Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – just Vin Diesel’s description of Groot’s character progression. Interestingly though, it looks like audiences can expect more adult Groot in Flight. 3. Responding to another Twitter user who expressed hope for seeing a fully developed Groot again, Gunn said, “Well, you might get lucky…”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the next Marvel movie and Smallville the potential role of star Michael Rosenbaum, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
