Before marrying Tim Mynett, Ilhan Omar had divorced her first two husbands. In 2002, she and Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi entered into an unofficial, faith-based Islamic marriage; however, it was canceled in 2008.

She married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009 but the couple divorced on religious grounds in 2011. In 2012 she made peace with her estranged husband and in 2017 they officially got married. But in 2018, her spouse filed for separation.

She later married Tim in 2020. He is a successful businessman, entrepreneur and consultant. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has contributed to some of the most innovative political campaigns of the past 15 years.

He comes from northern New Jersey originally. However, he holds degrees from the State University of New York in Albany and the University of Kwa Zulu Natal in Durban, South Africa.

His main Democratic challenger and his conservative critics, however, did not like it. Instead, they condemned the campaign deal with Mynett’s company, which was widely covered by local and national media.

As a result, on November 17, 2020, Omar’s campaign canceled his contract with Mynett’s company.

Sahra Noor was one of her sister’s seven siblings. She was the smallest of all children.

Her father holds a teaching degree and served as a colonel in the Somali army under Siad Barre. He hails from the Majeerteen clan in northern Somalia and is originally from Somalia.

Her grandfather was the director of Somalia’s National Marine Transport, and some of her uncles and aunts worked as civilian employees and educators. Later, to avoid the Somali civil war, his family left Somalia. They spent four years in a refugee camp in Dadaab.

They received refuge in the country and arrived in New York in 1995. They then spent some time in Arlington, Virginia, before moving and residing in Minneapolis.
