Luke Stice Murder Case and Updates

Five-year-old Luke Stice and 26-year-old James Thimm were both found dead in August 1985 west of Rulo, Nebraska, on an 80-acre property associated with the white supremacist Christian identity movement.

In “The Terrorist Next Door”, Daniel Levitas claimed there was evidence the two had been tortured before their deaths. They had been cruelly abused by a man who was trying to assert his power.

Police discovered that Michael Wayne Ryan, a truck driver and high school dropout, posed as a prophet and proclaimed the end of the world when he was caught for these crimes. His type of religion, which attracted followers among those seeking “paramilitary redemption”, was no stranger to violence.

His cult included Rick Stice, the farm manager and father of Luke Stice. Rick was drawn to Ryan’s ideas since he and his wife were struggling financially and Sondra had died of cancer.

The invitation to Stice’s property was extended to Ryan’s group, but Stice soon came to represent Ryan’s animosity. Stice was treated as Ryan’s “slave”.

There were about 21 people living in the various buildings, mostly children. They were advised to stock up on food and medicine by Ryan, who called them “true Israelites” and persuaded them that the last Armageddon would take place there in Nebraska.

An enthusiastic supporter by the name of James Thimm had come to the farm with David Andreas, who was thirty years old. Additionally, Ryan became enraged and demoted Thimm to a lower position. He was required to carry out the directives of his superiors.

Ryan began torturing Stice by abusing Luke. On the boy’s forehead he wrote “666” in red and declared that the child was a descendant of Satan. Stice followed Ryan’s instructions and beat and spanked Luke.

But eventually, Stice walked away from the property for a while. When he returned, he was tied to the porch. Ryan gave Stice the green light to sexually assault Luke. He was then instructed to sodomize Thimm and consent to the same procedure, which he did.

Ryan was nonetheless unhappy. He hit Luke hard one day, killing him by breaking his neck. Stice was forced to dig a grave, and in doing so he escaped once more, leaving two of his children behind.

He was subjected to a terrible succession of mistreatment instead of being able to flee. Before his death, he was shot in the face and tortured for several days.

Levitas alleges he was forced to have sex with a goat while chained up in a pigsty despite sustaining a serious facial injury. He was then repeatedly assaulted while holding a shovel handle by numerous guys acting on Ryan’s orders, after which Ryan beat and kicked him, breaking his arm.

His skin was ripped off the next day while he was still breathing and his legs were broken. Ryan followed by stomping on Thimm’s chest, killing him.

After Ryan ordered one of the others to shoot Thimm in the head for good measure, he was laid to rest in an unmarked cemetery.

Where is Michael Ryan now?

Because he died in prison in 2015, Michael Ryan is no longer alive.

On June 25, 1985, police raided the farm and found stolen property and illegally obtained weapons and ammunition. The cult members were arrested. After a while, Stice became an informant for the FBI and helped investigate Ryan.

After Ryan’s arrest, the remains were dug up. During his testimony in court, Stice was asked about his involvement in the abuse of his son. He replied, “I thought that was the right thing to do.

He was housed at Tecumseh State Correctional Facility in 2015. On May 24, 2015, Michael Ryan died of incurable brain cancer. He was 66 when he died.

Hearing and distribution of the Luke case

Michael Ryan was sentenced to death in 1986.

His second appeal was denied by the state Supreme Court in 1995 after his first appeal was denied in 1989.

Ryan questioned Nebraska’s decision to purchase one of the three drugs needed to carry out his execution in 2012. Ryan’s request was denied by a lower court without a hearing, and his appeal was dismissed by the Court state supreme in April of the previous year.

Nebraska lacked the capacity to execute Ryan because one of the three drugs needed for the lethal injection expired in 2013.

Governor Pete Ricketts said on May 14 that the three drugs needed for the executions had been purchased. Less than a week later, however, the Nebraska legislature passed a measure repealing the death penalty. On Tuesday, the governor announced he would veto the measure and said he had been looking for methods to gain enough support for his veto.

When he was found guilty, Nebraska only had the electric chair for executions. Lethal injection was adopted as a method of execution in Nebraska in 2009, however, following the Nebraska Supreme Court’s 2008 ruling that death by electric shock constituted cruel and unusual punishment.
