Two suspects in the Mall of America shooting were apprehended in Chicago Thursday afternoon after they allegedly hid from law enforcement.
Prosecutors say that on August 4, the two defendants, 21-year-old Shamar Alon Lark and 23-year-old Rashad Jamal May, opened fire with three shots during an altercation with shoppers at a Nike store in the Mall of America. in Bloomington, Minnesota. The incident caused no injuries.
The arrests, according to Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges, should serve as an illustration of the steps the government will take to address gun violence.
Three other people have been arrested for allegedly helping Shamar Lark and Rashad May escape from the crime scene.

According to CBS, Shamar Lark was named by law enforcement as the shooter in the Mall of America shooting, and Rashad May was accused of being his accomplice who helped him evade capture.
According to the New York Post, Lark has been charged with intentionally discharging a firearm, second degree assault with a dangerous weapon and openly carrying a pistol. Rashad May has been charged with aiding a criminal.
According to KARE 11, the two men were found in Chicago by FBI agents as they left a hair salon in a vehicle driven by an accomplice. Authorities say they may have had their hair cut to hide their identities.
Denesh Raghubir, 21, Selena Raghubir, 23, and Delyanie Kwen-Shawn Arnold, 23, were the other three people detained for helping the couple. Cousins Denesh and Selena Raghubir worked at a Best Western hotel near the Mall of America.

Authorities claim that Selena Raghubir and Delyani Arnold were dating. As the Mall of America was evacuated after the attack, suspects reportedly asked Arnold to help them escape. Arnold then informed Selena, who convinced her cousin Denesh to take a trip to the mall to help Lark and May escape.
When questioned, Denesh allegedly lied, claiming that Lark and May were present at the hotel, according to authorities. The Best Western hotel was therefore also quarantined.
Lark and May are currently being held at Cook County Jail in Illinois. They will be sent back to Minnesota, where a trial is scheduled.
