Love And Thunder’ Concept Art Has Tie-Ins To The X-Men

This concept art for Thor: Love and Thunder has ties to the X-Men.

Marvel Studios’ latest movie Thor: Love and Thunder was perhaps the most polarizing MCU entry since Eternals. While the film was not without its fans, it was heavily criticized for its tone, in which some felt it went too far with its humor as it clashed with more serious elements such as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and Jane Foster’s Cancer (Natalie Portman). However, MCU fans remained excited by the teases of the larger franchise, and interestingly, some concept art that was just revealed teased the X-Men.

This concept art by Sung Choi, who worked with Marvel Studios on Thor: Love and Thunder, features Cyttorak, aka the Destroyer, Lord of Oblivion. In the comics, he would select one person to become his avatar, allowing him to become the X-Men character, Juggernaut.

From the introduction of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) of Earth-838 as well as a revelation seen in the finale of Ms Marvel, the MCU is looking to further introduce mutants from the X-Men lore into the franchise canon. It will certainly be interesting to see how these stories are implemented and how characters such as Thor will interact with them.

Here is the synopsis of Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on an unprecedented journey – a quest for inner peace. But his retreat is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer, Mjolnir, as Mighty. Thor. Together they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the solo Thor film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan , Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
