Spider-Man Off Limits For A ‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’ Appearance

Spider-Man and other characters related to his stories weren’t allowed to be included in Marvel Studios’ new series, She-Hulk: Lawyer.

The next original series from Marvel Studios She-Hulk: Lawyer will not only feature Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), but will also include a slew of many MCU characters, including her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Wong (Benedict Wong), Abomination (Tim Roth), and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). Although the series was allowed to include exciting characters from most comics, there is one particular character (as well as others related to his stories) that could not be used: Spider-Man.

Spider-Man, whose standalone film rights still belong to Sony, was not allowed to be used in She-Hulk: Lawyer. In a chat with TheDirect.com, Jessica Gao, the series’ creator and head writer, explained why the beloved webhead won’t be meeting Jennifer Walters on this new series:

“There were a lot of comic book characters – we wanted a lot of comic books for characters in funny situations where we could bring like a character and think of funny reasons why they would get in legal trouble. But there were a lot of characters from the comics that we couldn’t use either because of a rights issue or a few times because Marvel… all they said was they had d other plans. And that’s all they told us. And then we tried very, very hard to push and push and get a little bit more information. Of course, they wouldn’t tell us.

But I will say the one MCU character that really pissed off a lot of the writers in our room that we couldn’t use was Spider-Man and everyone involved – like in the Spider-Man universe. Because we had so many Spider-Man fans in the room.

Given that Spider-Man: No Coming Home ends with Peter Parker completely forgotten by the rest of the world, leaving him a blank slate in the MCU, it’s likely that if he were to make an appearance in the near future, it would be in his fourth standalone film first. While fans should be patient for his next appearance, the introduction of new characters in She-Hulk: Lawyer hope fans stay excited.

Here is the synopsis of She-Hulk:

“She-Hulk: Lawyer follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single 30-something lawyer who also appears to be a 6-foot-7 green superpowered hulk.

Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Lawyer stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

She-Hulk premieres on Disney Plus on August 18. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Spider-Man’s future in the MCU and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
