Dwayne Johnson Claims He Helped Zachary Levi Get His Shazam Solo Movie By Fighting With DC To Make A Separate Black Adam Movie

Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, has been quite passionate when it comes to the next DCEU venture, Black Adam. Whether it’s building hype or expressing the hard work he put into this project, the actor will make sure his love for the film and the character is known to all. Recently, through a tweet, the former professional wrestler reaffirmed what he originally pointed out in a Vanity Fair interview; how was he the one “fought for” and suggested separate solo films for the Shazam and Black Adam characters.

According to his claims, Dwayne Johnson wanted to protect the integrity of the two characters, allowing them both to enjoy their separate limelight before the two characters and their worlds, as intended, clash.

When Warner Bros. began to map and imagine the Shazam! film in 2014, the former wrestler agreed to play the role of Black Adam. In his recent interview for Vanity Fair, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson claimed how, in the original draft of Shazam!, the two characters were meant to share their origin stories in one film. But according to the Hobbs & Shaw actor, he knew in his gut that such a decision would not be wise for any of the characters, especially Black Adam, the role for which he had signed up. “We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice,” Johnson asserted.

The actor had pleaded for two separate films, following this. He made calls and shared his opinions. Johnson further stated that he believed the filmmakers should give Shazam! a specific tone and provide stand-alone distinction for black adam, as well. Keeping his role out of the 2019 movie equation was a decision he wholeheartedly affirmed. Good for the actor, because it seemed to have worked out pretty well. Zachary Levi enjoyed his solo effort in 2019 and is ready for the next one Shazam! sequel, while Johnson can now do the same with Black Adam.

In his recent tweet, Johnson simply reaffirmed what he originally said in the Vanity Fair interview. He said that the claims he made are “100% true.” The actor said he fought not only for the two characters to enjoy a standalone film, but also for the Justice Society of America characters. He did it to appease the fans and their pleasure. He also said the following in his tweet:

“[I fought to] protect the ruthless and extremely violent tone of Black Adam as we build #DCEU.

Dwayne Johnson has a real passion for his DCEU project. Many fans also agreed that this decision was a wiser choice. Allowing both characters to grow on their terms first in the solo films allows for a nicely fleshed out story arc before the two clash in the future. While some fans expressed that their anticipation was simply over the top, waiting before allowing the worlds of Black Adam and Billy Batson to collide would be a better reward.

It remains to be seen exactly how the two characters intersect. When they do, as planned, it would be quite an experience to have as a DC fan. For now, enthusiastic audiences have to make peace with the two upcoming solo films.

Whereas black adam, starring Dwayne Johnson in the lead role, is set to be released on October 21, 2022, Shazam! Fury of the gods will follow it with a release on December 21, 2022.
