Princess Diana’s former bodyguard ‘Rambo’, who protected her until her death in Paris, has made a startling admission.
He is Princess Diana’s bodyguard nicknamed “Rambo”, with whom she has had many one-on-one discussions about her deepest concerns and goals for the future. Sansum claimed she would still be alive today if he had been present the night she and Dodi Fayed perished in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997, 25 years after her death. Discover the identity of Lee Sansum and learn more about the individual who could have saved Princess Diana.
Reports indicate that businessman Mohammed Al-Fayed employed Sansum. As mentioned earlier, Princess Diana called him Rambo. She had many heart-to-heart talks with him and expressed her deepest fears and future goals. The 60-year-old bodyguard recalled the occasion when he could have been in the car and saved the princess. Sansum continued, “We drew a short straw to choose who would accompany Trevor this weekend, and he drew a match and it was long.”
Due to his association with Mohamed Al-Fayed, owner of the Hotel Ritz Paris and former Harrods department store and Fulham FC, Sansum has also provided protection for actors Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Sylvester Stallone and player Pelé. In July 1997, Dodi and Diana, who were 36 at the time, were staying at Sansum’s 30-bedroom villa in Saint-Tropez, southern France. Sansum, from Burnley, recently published The Bodyguard: Real Stories of Close Protection from Tom Cruise to Princess Diana, which details his remarkable career in personal protection.
He was immediately drawn to young Princes William and Harry, who Sansum felt were likable and down-to-earth like their mother. William and Harry were 15 and 12 when Diana died. Sansum believes Diana’s intention to do so inspired Harry and Meghan’s decision to move to the United States. The trauma “took place as the foundations of life were being established,” he said. “His mother saw America as a safe sanctuary. He will build on his previous experience. Sansum, a martial arts instructor, offered William and Harry the chance to learn kickboxing, but they were too scared.
