Jeff Burton: What happened to him? In memoriam: Rizzuto Show host, dead at 55.
Rizzuto Show host Jeff Burton died suddenly on August 15 at the age of 55. On the official 105.7 website, Rizzuto radio show co-hosts Tony Patrico, Moon Valjean and King Scott released a statement regarding his passing. “We (they) have lost our beloved friend and colleague, Jeff Burton,” they said. They said the following about Burton’s personality in the statement:
Everyone at 105.7 The Point adored and respected Jeff for a variety of reasons, including his kindness, humor and generosity, to name a few.
Additionally, they said that “in the coming months” they would be “honouring” the radio show’s presenter. Then, Rizzuto and company begged their followers to remember Burton’s family:
Keep Jeff’s family in your thoughts and remember the guy who has given so much to our station and our community in this time. The Rizzuto Show and the rest of the staff will pay tribute to Jeff in the coming months.
The radio personality was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2021 and announced it live. In the weeks that followed, Burton began his chemotherapy treatment, and he continued to contribute to the show while doing so.
Jeff Burton was rushed to the Missouri Baptist for two blood transfusions and a platelet transfusion, according to Juli, Jeff Burton’s wife, on July 2. The disease had spread throughout his body, despite the fact that doctors were able to stabilize him. He received palliative care and on Friday, July 8, he returned home.
Sadly, Jeff Burton lost his battle with cancer on Monday after a 17-month battle.
Following his passing, social media was flooded with messages of condolence.
Recently, Jeff Burton opened up about his cancer diagnosis on the program.
On July 29, Burton provided health updates, a month after leaving his studio job. He stated:
“Being diagnosed with cancer made me really grateful and humbled to realize who’s supporting me through all of this, so that’s a pretty amazing thing,” the patient said. It’s amazing how many people care about you after finding out about them.
At the time of his final appearance, Burton said:
“No matter what happens here in the future, I know Rizzuto and Tony and everyone have been discussing what the future may or may not hold. Whatever part I can move forward into , we will try to figure it out together and keep kicking it as long as we can,” Rizzuto said.
Burton started his own fundraising effort called “Man Of Many Hats”, and he was able to raise over $35,000 through it.
Burton is well known for attending many concerts and events, including the Pointfest music festival. In October 2018, Burton also released his own children’s book, The Watering Hole.
