Lenska was born in the American military hospital EVAC, which was once a Polish refugee camp, in the English village of Diddington. Before the war, his family owned a castle and estate in Kazimierza Wielka, Poland. They belonged to the Polish nobility with a Pomian coat of arms.
Before Germany took control of Poland, her father, Count Major Ludwik Ubieski, worked for Polish Foreign Minister Jozef Beck. Rula was one of three children of her parents. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, her sister Anna was a film actress.
