On May 20, 2016, a sleazy man named George S. Burch, then forty, allegedly beat and strangled Nicole VanderHeyden, a 31-year-old teacher from Wisconsin. Viewers have been eager to find out what happened to VanderHeyden on the day he died since Dateline: Unforgettable Season 2 was renewed by Oxygen.

Nicole VanderHeyden reportedly had sex with her 35-year-old boyfriend, Douglass Detrie, whose heartbreaking story of death will be covered in Dateline: Unforgettable Season 2 Episode 11.
The couple shared a residence in Ledgeview, Wisconsin and had a child together who was just 6 months old when she died. At first, the couple seemed like a wonderful match with their loved ones and enjoyed a good connection. However, over time, tension grew between the two of them.
They used to engage in argumentative disagreements and fights frequently. According to reports, the couple began to doubt their union. On May 20, 2016, Douglass and Nicole hired a babysitter to watch their child while they went out with their close friends to see a glam-rock band at a bar.
Unfortunately, the couple also had a big fight that night at the pub. According to Sgt. Tracy Holschbach, Brown County Sheriff:
“They were drinking, and as the night passed, Doug ran into some old high school buddies he hadn’t seen in a while.
He acknowledged Nikki’s anger at seeing Doug conversing with another woman at [the bar called] The Water Point. And that basically triggered it.
Nicole and her boyfriend had a furious argument in the pub, so Nicole walked over to Sardine Can instead. Apparently she didn’t come home that night.
Another man named George S. Burch took Nicole home that same night. The man was 40 when the incident happened. Burch forced her to accept him, and when she resisted him, he beat her badly before choking her to death.
After that, the man left his body in a field three miles from the victim’s Wisconsin home. Later, a farmer came to his unidentifiable body.
Her lover, Douglass Detrie, was initially suspected of killing her due to problems in their relationship, but it was later discovered that George S. Burch had in fact taken her life. He was sentenced to life on March 1, 2018 and is currently serving at the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility.
