In the year 2022, the author of the murder of Chris Kyle is still incarcerated. The tragic event took place on February 2, 2013, when Eddie Ray Routh, a veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), shot him and his friend Chad Littlefield.
After several trials, he was finally found guilty in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Eddie, who was 25 at the time, had been admitted to and released from several mental institutions over the previous two years.
Along with penetrating Kyle’s aorta and causing catastrophic damage to his spinal cord and jaw, he shot Kyle six times in the back. After shooting him and his friend, he traveled to Midlothian, where he was staying with his sister Laura Blevins, and spoke about the incident there.
In addition, his sister contacted the emergency operator and informed him of the incident by telephone. That same day, the officer transported Routh to Erath County Jail, where he was charged with capital murder on two counts and jailed on $3 million bail.
A year later, on May 5, 2014, the trial against him was due to begin, but was postponed as DNA testing standards had to be met.
