According to the editor, She-Hulk: Lawyer was full of mess and mixed reports during its production, with people calling it complicated. While it received enough praise from critics over the direction of the show, that wasn’t the case with Marvel. Jessica Gao tried to integrate that Marvel had other rejection plans. She explained:

“There were a lot of comic book characters – we wanted a lot of comic books for characters in funny situations where we could bring like a character and think of funny reasons why they would get in legal trouble. But there were a lot of characters from the comics that we couldn’t use either because of a rights issue or a few times because Marvel… all they said was they had d other plans. And that’s all they told us. And then we tried very, very hard to push and push and get a little bit more information.

“Of course they wouldn’t tell us. But I will say the one MCU character that really pissed off a lot of the writers in our room that we couldn’t use was Spider-Man and everyone involved – like in the Spider-Man universe. Because we had so many Spider-Man fans in the room.

She also revealed that she had been rejected by Marvel three times on previous projects, including her very first project which she pitched to Marvel, Black Widow.
