The film currently holds an embarrassing 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, over time, the film gradually snowballed into a reputation as an underground cult classic. Almost a decade after the film’s release, RIPD now gets a sequel titled RIPD 2: Rise of the Damned.

How the RIPD The sequel may be a sensible studio move
When the film was first released in 2013, it dropped horribly at the box office with a non-existent profit margin, not even matching the film’s budget. The film isn’t the first project to fail and then relaunch to become a successful franchise, however. The tactical move undertaken by production house Universal Pictures follows in the footsteps of films such as chucky and Scorpio King.
