With thousands of movies released every year, it’s easy to miss some absolute gems, so here are six movies you’ve slept on (but really should watch)… Some are lesser-known features, others just missed because of what was released around them, but all of them are good in one way or another, and worth your time.
Moon (2009)
Directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell, Moon follows the lone astronaut as he works around his lunar station, with his only companion in his computer Gertie. A fairly simple premise with a solid story of how it was run, I won’t say more lest I ruin it, but give it a watch, I guarantee you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The Fountain (2006)
Darren Aronofsky directed this film featuring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz playing multiple characters on three separate timelines. All three timelines have one thing in common, in that the main characters attempt to find the Tree of Life for their own reasons, whether selfish or not. In typical Aronofsky style, this film is both philosophical and downright gruesome with one scene in particular, and it’ll also get you introspective pretty quickly once you’re done. Not his best work, but close.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
Starring Robert Downey Jr. before his Hollywood redemption arc, this is one of my favorites. A black comedy that follows the character of RDJ from being a petty criminal trying to steal a toy from his child for Christmas, arriving on a Hollywood casting call, and then finding himself in the middle of an endless murder mystery story. to twist and turn in strange ways. If only for the witty banter between Downey and Val Kilmer, give him a watch.
In Bruges (2008)
Another dark comedy on the list of six movies you’ve slept on (but really should watch), In Brugge, follows two hitmen after a hit goes wrong on their trip to Bruges. Framed as a sort of retreat in their spare time while they wait to hear from their boss, Colin Farrell carries the film with his perfect blend of self-deprecating humor, charm and introspective guilt, and Brendan Gleeson isn’t too bad either. .

Primer (2004)
A time travel movie that won’t hold your hand while you watch it, you’ll want to make sure to put your phone down and give this one your full attention. By the end of the movie, you’ll be confused, amazed, and probably have to watch it again, if only to grasp much of the multi-layered story you missed on your first watch. All the more impressive is the fact that it was done on a meager budget of $7,000.
You’re Next (2011)
The last of the movies you slept on (but really should watch), and it’s a complete genre shift from the previous ones. A home invasion film with a twist of sorts, the film pulls none of its punches. From the opening scene you know you’re in for a treat, with some inventive kills, a good soundtrack that pops up in the most memorable moments, and a Home Alone-esque trap setting of the house, it’s definitely a film that has its fingerprints on some later films, including silence and Ready or Not.
There are a lot of movies that could be included in this list, and in a way, I hope most readers have seen the majority of what’s included, however, I bet that’s not the case. Instead of watching the latest release this weekend, take your pick and watch one of the movies included here on this list of six movies you’ve slept on (but really should watch)…
