Author and creator of the fantasy epic, George RR Martin has a resounding opinion the same, and given that he is the divine hand that birthed, shaped, guided and scripted the characters and their stories, the lyrics of Martin prevail over all the rest when he expresses his dissatisfaction with a particular aspect of the adaptation of his work.

game of thrones Does not respect the vision of its creator
The HBO adaptation of A song of ice and fire was undertaken by David Benioff and Dan Weiss and thus was born one of the most brilliant cinematic narratives in television history to date. In a recent interview with The Official Game of Thrones Podcast: House of the Dragonthe author discussed his perception of the progression of the series since “exciting” at “frustrating”.
“I remember…I came to visit the set and they were still working on the first episode, the pilot. And David Benioff showed me a clip of the scene with Arya and her father Ned on the stairs where she was standing on one foot trying to balance herself. And it was great. I had seen rehearsals with these actors but I had not seen them in character and I had not seen them do it. It was my scene coming to life. They were my characters. And nothing was more enjoyable than seeing that happen.
But of course there’s always the other side of the coin, which is that all of a sudden you see a scene and you say, what did they do here, it’s not like that must happen. With what happened in the last series of the HBO series, there can only be a handful of arcs that can match Martin’s disappointment in tone. It could be Jon Snow’s sudden rejection of justice in the company of Daenerys Targaryen or it could be a seasoned Littlefinger falling prey to Sansa Stark’s manipulations. This could also be Cersei Lannister’s sacrificial end since she’s the type to never go down without a fight.

Whatever the scenario (and there could be thousands of them considering it’s game of thrones, after all), the author’s disappointment at his character’s sudden incompatibility with the source material is what contributed to the generic sentiment of criticism and disappointment that followed in the aftermath of the series’ controversial ending. It remains to be seen whether the author will be able to redeem the televised end with his closing of the saga of A song of ice and fire.
