‘They forced us back’: She-Hulk’s jokes were so extreme that Marvel Studios was forced to step in and tone them down

by Jessica Gao She-Hulk: Lawyer successfully aired its first episode earlier this month on August 18, 2022, and it couldn’t have had a better opening. The latest series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four has been met with critical acclaim, as websites like Rotten Tomatoes have reported an 87% approval rating, Certified Fresh and Tasty!

The first episode of the series was light and comedic, and fans loved it at first sight. However, it has been reported that Marvel Studios has decided to tone down the comedy and jokes for She-Hulk: lawyer, a frequent request from veteran Marvel fans who want the studio to explore much more serious themes and subject matter than wacky storylines.

Marvel decided that to tone down the funny

Movies and comedy, especially superhero movies and comedy, can go very well together. But it seems Marvel disagrees with this program, or at least their fans do.

The fact that Marvel asked to tone down the jokes for She-Hulk: Lawyer is not just baseless rumors, the source comes from the producer and creator of the series Jessica Gao herself!

During an interview with IGN, Gao talked about Marvel putting an end to the jokes that went into the show, but only those that were deemed harmful to its brand-

“Yeah, I mean, most of the time the only jokes they really forced us to remember were when we were a little too mean when we made fun of Marvel stuff.”

However, creative freedom wasn’t excluded from Marvel Studios’ books according to Gao-

“Well, I think what this shows and should reassure fans is that Marvel has now come to a point where they’re ready to expand into areas they’ve never gone before. And they’re ready to do it, to try new things and to venture into areas that were previously outside their comfort zone.

I can’t wait for episode two!

Mark Ruffalo Is All For Edward Norton Appreciation In New She-Hulk Show

The endless debate over whether Edward Norton’s Hulk in the 2008 film is better than Mark Ruffalo’s is hotly debated, but at least Edward Norton’s contribution is acknowledged.

XXXXXXX-SPOILERS AHEAD-XXXXXXX

In the pilot episode of She-Hulk: lawyer, Tatiana Maslany’s character Jen talks to Blonsky, who, as you may recall, became Abomination at the end of The Incredible Hulk. Jen is Blonsky’s parole attorney and initially refuses to talk to him because he tried to kill his cousin Bruce Banner. But Banner reassures her that it’s okay to move on because they put it in the past.

Mark Ruffalo took note of this small detail and told Entertainment Weekly how much he appreciates the show’s effort to acknowledge Norton’s involvement as Bruce Banner in the previous version of The Hulk-

“I think it’s really funny. It’s just the reality that we all dance to often, but it’s true.

“I actually joked with Ed about it. I was like, ‘It’s like the Hamlet of our generation. Everybody’s gonna take a chance. And there’ll probably be another couple before it’s all over. People will be like, ‘Do you remember when the Hulk looked like Mark Ruffalo? Now he looks like Timothée Chalamet.’

Maybe we’ll get a Hulk crossover movie where they both come from different universes. She-Hulk: Lawyer is now streaming on Disney+.
