Early life and education
Parveen Kaur – of Indian and Canadian descent – was born on October 17, 1988 in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada. Her parents are immigrants from Mumbai, India. There is no information about her education except that she left school to pursue a different interest.
Career
First step
At 19, living alone in the big city of Toronto, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a film and television actress. She began auditioning for roles, even for television commercials, and in 2013, the J. Walter Thompson agency cast her as the girl in Tim Horton’s national holiday season television commercial, titled ” Hi”. In 2014, she had a minor role in a Canadian-American television sitcom, “Working the Engels”, but which was canceled after 12 episodes in Canada and only aired five episodes in the United States.
Although it didn’t last as long as she had hoped, it was a great start to her television career.
Additional success
In 2015, she had a recurring role on the second season of “The Strain,” based on a horror novel trilogy of the same name created by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, which aired through 2017 on the FX network. The same year, she was cast as Dr. Asha Mirani, a supporting role in season 4 of the Canadian medical-supernatural television series titled “Saving Hope,” which aired for five seasons from 2015 to 2017.
It was picked up in the US by NBC but only for one season.
Parveen also had a supporting role in another supernatural drama television series, “Beyond”, in 2016, which aired on the Freeform Network, and was later available to stream on the Freeform app; the show ran for two seasons before being canceled in 2018.
However, 2018 turned out to be her lucky year as she was included in the regular cast of the American supernatural television series titled “Manifest” which aired on NBC.
She played the role of a medical researcher, Saanvi Bahl, who was a passenger on a plane that was reportedly missing and all presumed dead, for about five years. His research will prove important in explaining what happened to the five years they supposedly lost. The pilot episode aired in September 2018 to mixed reviews from television critics, but was seen by 18.4 million viewers. It was renewed for a second season and had its finale on April 6, 2020.

The network hasn’t released any news regarding its third season renewal, but based on conversations between the cast and crew, it has a huge chance of renewal.
While directing episodes for “Manifest”, Parveen also made guest appearances on numerous TV shows, the most notable being 2017’s “American Gods” as a young Persian woman, the emergency drama series “9-1 -1” and as Lucy Crushner in “Workin’ Moms” in 2018.
Praveen has also completed a Canadian drama film called “Through Black Spruce”, an adaptation of the novel of the same title directed by Don McKellar.
She was also in the cast of the film entitled “Acquainted”, with Adelaide Kane and Giacomo Guianniotti. It premiered on December 1, 2018 at the Whistler Film Festival in Canada and had a limited theatrical release on April 5, 2019. Film producers also entered it into the SOHO International Film Festival in the United States.
Private life
Little is known about Parveen’s personal life. She rarely talks about her family, except that she left home and school when she turned 18, in an attempt to “find herself” in Toronto.
She said in an interview with online fan site “Fear Forever” that she mainly wanted to get out of the small town in the Okanagan Valley and look for other options in life. It all happened to fall into place when she moved to Toronto. She is single and not engaged to anyone; there are no rumors of boyfriends or dating history.
Interesting facts and rumors
- When she played a doctor on the TV series “Saving Hope,” she followed her family doctor to the hospital and watched him perform a C-section in the ER. This was to ensure that she would be able to mimic a doctor’s habit during consultations and surgeries. She found the experience both exhilarating and surreal.
- Praveen received the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF) award in 2017 for her active role in portraying women of color in television and film. One of his ways to create awareness is to use the power to say “no” to projects that do not clearly and fairly represent his community. It’s his way of opening a dialogue and explaining why it seemed unfair from his point of view. She thinks the more she can educate people in the entertainment industry about it, the better they’ll understand it.
- She was extremely excited when she was offered a role in the TV series “The Strain” as it was her first major project in which she had more than one line to deliver. Parveen was also incredibly impressed with the set design and thought it would be her job if she wasn’t an actress.
