Early life and family
Jonathan was born in Vietnamin what is now Ho Chi Minh City on August 20, 1971.
His hometown was called Saigon, but the name was changed after the fall of Saigon, when the Republic of Vietnam came to an end. It was during this time that Jonathan was born and his parents were granted political asylum and moved to the United States, where Jonathan was raised and granted citizenship.
He spent most of his childhood in Tujunga, California, then moved to Alhambra, California where he completed high school. At the age of 12, during auditions at his school, Jonathan landed the role of “Short Round”, Indiana Jones’ sidekick for the film “Temple of Doom”.
His brother also auditioned for the same role but was outmatched by Jonathan. Jonathan has eight siblings, but most details of his personal life have been kept under wraps and not much is known about his parents and siblings.
Schooling
Jonathan attended Mount Gleason Junior High in Tujunga, California, then moved and completed high school at Alhambra High School.
