rings of power
Charlie Vickers as well as Morfydd Clark, actors of the next The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, discuss their favorite moments from the Peter Jackson blockbusters. Amazon’s highly anticipated miniseries is adapted from the works of the late fiction writer JRR Tolkien, and it shows the emergence of darkness during the Second Rich Age of Middle-earth.
A number of fresh figures, such as Halbrand (Vickers), are introduced in power ringswhile others make a return, like Galadriel, who was first portrayed by Cate Blanchett in the original installments.
The stars sat down together and shared their thoughts
The Fellowship of the Ring, the first installment in Jackson’s Lord of the Rings franchise graced theaters decades ago, and its two successors, The Two Towers and The Return of the King came out later. Audiences still love Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, despite the fact that Tolkien’s estate was notoriously unhappy with the films.
Throughout the films, the famous Fellowship of the Ring – made up of Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Sam (Sean Astin), Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and many others – accompanies Frodo (Elijah Wood) on his journey to Mount Doom to eradicate the One Ring created by the Dark Lord Sauron.
CLARK: Yes. It’s when Aragorn walks through the gates of Helm’s Deep, and it had a profound effect on me.
VICKERS: Very sexy. I’d say mine is in The Fellowship when the Hobbits have just left the Shire, and they’re being chased by the Ringwraiths, and they’re hiding under the road where the roots of the tree are.
CLARK: Oh yeah, so scary.
VICKERS: And I was quite young when I first watched this, and I found it terrifying, and it always stuck with me.
CLARK: Actually, it’s not necessarily my favorite, but the one that stuck out to me the most was probably that I can’t eat a cherry tomato without thinking of Denethor.
VICKERS: Denethor eating the tomatoes. Singing.
There are many unforgettable scenes in Jackson’s films, and every Lord of the Rings devotee is sure to have a particular favourite. Aragorn is a fan favorite as he goes from being an outcast warrior in the initial film to rightful King of Gondor at the end of The Return of the King.
One of the most terrifying features of The Fellowship of the Ring is the Ringwraiths’ relentless pursuit of Frodo and the remaining Hobbits. If you ask me my personal favorite scene comes from the opening monologue of the first episode when Isildur cuts off Sauron’s fingers separating him from the One Ring.
The streaming giant has definitely invested heavily to ensure The Rings of Power takes home the cake, but only time will tell if any of the scenes from the show will be as iconic as those from the original episodes. Despite great critical reception and enthusiastic fan response to teasers and music videos yet to be released, it will be hard to match the enduring popularity of Peter Jackson’s films.
Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is coming to Amazon Prime tomorrow, so be prepared with your swords and snacks
