Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos spoke at the The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power UK premiere Tuesday.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a huge effort for Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, which is backed by a $465 million budget for the first season. The CEO of Amazon made a surprise appearance at power rings‘s premiere on Tuesday in the UK, and discussed his involvement, or lack thereof, in the series:
“Every showrunner’s dream — and I mean every showrunner’s — their dream is to get notes on scripts and first cuts from the founder and executive chairman. They loved it. I have to thank you both for listening whenever it helped me, but most of all I have to thank you for ignoring me at exactly the right time.
Bezos’ history with Tolkien
Jeff Bezos also delved into his personal relationship with Tolkien’s Middle-earth lore and how the love for The Lord of the Rings was passed on to his children:
“It was my grandfather who introduced me to Tolkien. I fell in love right away, I was probably 13 or 14. I fell in love with the adventure of course, the detailed universe, the feelings of hope and optimism, the idea that everyone has a role to play. And I’m happy to report that this cycle continues today. My children have also become Tolkien fans. In fact, I think one of my boys is approaching the level of a Tolkien scholar, he knows so much about this universe. And after Amazon became involved in this project, my son came to see me one day, he looked me in the eye, very sincerely, and he said to me, “Dad, please don’t Do not do that.” And he was right. We know this world is important to so many people, we know it is a privilege to work in this world and we know it is a great responsibility.
