Jordan Burroughs was born on July 8, 1988, in Camden, New Jersey USA; he grew up in the town of Sicklerville, was raised in the Christian faith and is still true to his faith. He is the youngest of four children and fell in love with wrestling at the age of five – his first weight class was 45 pounds.

At the time, he idolized World Wrestling Federation (WWF) wrestlers, including Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior, among others.

He went to Winslow Township High School, where he became a well-known wrestler, winning three district titles, two regional championships, while he also won the state championship in the 135-pound weight class in 2006 His other accomplishments include a Senior Nationals tournament, having defeated other senior wrestlers in the United States. He graduated from high school as No. 52 on a list of the top 100 wrestlers of the senior year.

University career
